A Nigerian Startup to Assist the Visually Impaired

The World Health Organization (WHO) found that 15% of the global blind population lives in Africa. But, of course, they do not have the resources and support to succeed in school and life. But, according to (Lagos) Reuters, a Nigerian startup in Lagos called Vinsighte has stepped up. The company is using technology to assist the visually impaired with reading. Their products offer a range of “smart” assistive reading glasses that convert texts to audio.
“I wanted just to try and see if we could build something that could solve the problem, and that was where it all started,” says the CEO of Vinsighte Kolawole Tomi. The company has distributed these reading glasses to 5,000 people in Africa.
