At last, it is finally here – the most anticipated month of every year. Of course, it comes at the same time every year, but each seems shorter than before. It reinforces the theory that time is a fleeting illusion. Take it from someone who knows about procrastination – do what you want to do today, for tomorrow does not end (echi anaghi agwu agwu), and time is a fleeting thing.
There are many good things to look forward to this season. For example, we look forward to spending time with friends and family on Christmas Day. No doubt, being among friends and family is always exciting, whether in the United States or Nigeria. So, I wish everyone traveling this season to be with friends and family a safe trip.
We also look forward to the gifts, food, drinks, and parties. In addition, we anticipate good gifts from friends and family. However, I know you may have heard too many times that what matters is the heart, not the present. I agree with that truism. So, as we indulge ourselves this Christmas season, it is crucial that we give, eat, drink and party responsibly.
While we celebrate, we must remember the enduring message of Christmas. It is the message of God’s love for humanity. The message begins with a concrete instruction but goes on to make a promise “Do not be afraid, for behold I bring you good news of great joy for all the People.” Christmas is a celebration of God’s love and promise.
Therefore, let us go ahead and celebrate in genuine love. I hope that this Christmas brings each of us closer to love. But, most importantly, I hope that it brings us closer to the everlasting love of God.
On behalf of the Nigerian Parents Magazine (NPM) family, I wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
